Strands is a captivating blend of Spelling Bee, Connections, and classic Crosswords created by The New York Times.
How to Play
Every day, players are given 48 letters on a 6 x 8 board and a theme. The task is to uncover the Spangram and all the theme words.
Steps for Solving the Puzzle
1. Discover Theme Words
Fill the board entirely with the thematic answers. They are highlighted in blue when found and they don't overlap. These words all relate to the daily theme.
2. Reveal the Spangram
Search for the Spangram, a crucial puzzle element touching two opposite sides of the board. It encapsulates the theme and may consist of two words. It is highlighted in yellow when found.
3. Earn Hints
Need a nudge in the right direction? Find non-theme words to earn hints. For every 3 non-theme words you uncover, a hint will highlight the letters to find a theme word without revealing the word directly.
Game Mechanics
In Strands, you form words by connecting adjacent letters in any direction - horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Letters can only be used once per word, and words must be at least 4 letters long.
The game has several key elements:
- Theme Words: Words related to the daily theme, highlighted in blue when found
- Spangram: A special word or phrase that spans from one side of the board to the other, highlighted in yellow
- Non-theme Words: Valid words that aren't related to the theme but help earn hints
